The Indonesian government proposed that parliament increase electricity subsidies for this year’s budget to 56.5 trillion rupiah ($5.5 billion) from the current 46 trillion rupiah, Bisnis Indonesia reported.
The higher amount comes amid a weaker rupiah and difficulties implementing a subsidy-reduction plan by regulating the price of coal used by state utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara, the newspaper said, citing Energy Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro.
