The management of Muhammadiyah in East Java called on officials, the people and community leaders not to celebrate New Year on account of the natural disasters like floods and landslides in that province.
"This attitude is a reflection of empathy and respect to the flood victims for their suffering," Secretary of East Java chapter of Muhammadiyah Nadjib Hamid MSi told ANTARA News here on Sunday.
Nadjib said his side had sent SMS (short messages) to a number of officials including to bureau chief of mental spiritual institutions Thoriq Affandie who often held new year celebrations at Grahadi building.
