Decorated with paper lanterns and artificial cherry blossoms, the parking lot of Taman Ria Senayan amusement park in Central Jakarta resembled the famous Harajuku street in Japan on Saturday.
Crowded with young people dressed in colorful clothes with popular Japanese cartoon character designs or the latest Harajuku-style fashion, the 'J-Topia Megumi Minori' event gave a different ambience to the capital.
Although the event was held as a marketing tool for Japanese snack products, it unexpectedly drew a large crowd interested in Japanese culture.
The festival was part of the launching program for Megumi and Minori, new snacks being distributed by Unilever Indonesia that are produced by Japanese company Calbee. The products were officially launched in Indonesia in the end of 2006.
